Not sure why you don't go the whole hog with atheism. A forgiving God would allow you to change your mind and beg forgiveness in any case. A vengeful deity would have you screwed on any smell of doubt. If neither of them exist you go to the eternal sleep.
It's not about religion really as you will see if you read it. I have been an atheist in the past and a believer before that. But I am more comfortable being an agnostic in a religious sense. I don't believe in an after life so am quite happy with the eternal sleep.
