Great point, Rob. The US started the war, has for years been attempting to overthrow the country, is still providing material support in weapons, technology and targeting data to Ukrainian forces costing the lives of Russian citizens. And continues to act in bad faith with the minerals deal and in its dealings with Russian negotiators.
And proclaiming themselves the good guys the whole time.
I haven't kept up too much on the Ukraine war, or other events for that matter, this week.
But you have highlighted the rank hypocrisy and incompetence of our so called leaders.
World society has big issues.
There is no balance in the press, it is all biased. The politicians all have vested interests and orders to keep to party script and people in general not able to think for themselves anymore.
I read an article on Euronews that the EU made a statement on considering Ukraine's aspirations to join the EU if the minerals deal goes ahead. I guess that is another reason for a few billion more wasted and another 100.000 lives.
Trump is far from helping world affairs, with his zionist interests, in bombing Yemeni civilians and what with his Israeli stooges trying to drag Iran into confrontation with the Beirut attacks today.
These pathetic people will not act rationally in a red button scenario 'if' events escalate.
Poor state of affairs and an indictment on their intellect.
The Update was created for people who don't keep in touch with events for whatever reason - useful to some. I think that a number of countries won't allow Ukraine to join the EU - Hungary for one. Anyway, I am not sure how long the EU will survive. However, things could change if the Democrats regain power in four years. Nothing is set in stone at the moment. Let's see what happens next.
Everyone so far seems to have missed why they're using Signal instead of their official messaging app. They're doing it to avoid the Official Records Act, the same as Clinton (and Rice and Powell before her) with their private email servers. May as well just throw the Act away now, officials conducting business in secret and with no accountability has been normalized again.
Why is Russia taking so long to attrit the Ukrainian forces? The Soviets withstood a 3.5 million man invasion, all the way to Moscow and Leningrad, and then pushed the Wehrmacht all the way back to Poland in a similar amount of time. Is it that RF wants to cause a minimum of damage to civilians and infrastructure or is the advent of drone warfare so profound or is this slow going designed to keep news out of the media, a stealth war with fewer casualties on the RF side? Or all three?
Its a fight against Ukraine with 50 supporting countries. A quick victory may gain land area, but will a) need personnel to secure it and to fight terroism and b) will give opportunity to resupply weapons and ammunition.
Because of this, Russia choose to draw back from many areas earlier in the war.
Russia choose to concentrate on attrition of Ukraine and Nato Personnel and weapons - until nothing is left over. So it was not against Ukraine, but also against NATO. Slow areal progress also secures short supply routes. It also encouragred Ukraine to send it's resources to the russian forces and not vice versa.
To win a war, one has to destroy all enemy forces. Which Russia did and has nearly finished. When an army is destroyed and capitulates, the winner can make any demand.
I know what you mean: the Russians do appear to be taking a long time and it is frustrating. I don't have an answer but the things you mention are all factors. It is hard for us to make judgements because this type of warfare, with drones playing a major part, is very different from what has come before.
Thanks Rob for another excellent summary of world events. I think we are near a crunch point as Ukraine is accelerating towards a defeat but shows little interest in saving what's left of their shithole country. I can't believe Budanov's attitude towards a nuclear catastrophe, these people are dead set crazy.
I also think that the US would be mad to have a crack at Iran as it would shred what is left of their meagre credibility and most likely they would get their arses handed to them, Isreal the same. Doesn't mean that they won't although and they will cause a lot of damage to innocent people in the process.
Thank you Shane. I normally post every Friday unless something big happens that I feel compelled to write about. And given the current tensions, that could happen.

US foreign policy at its usual level.
Superb round up of this weeks events Rob!

Thanks again for the excellent summary.
Will the Houthi's hold out against the US and probably UK bombing?
Yes according to Pepe Escobar interviewed from Yemen. I learned a lot from this piece.
"Pepe Escobar: Yemen Strikes Back as U.S. & Israel Escalate"

I learn lots from Pepe also. Thanks.

Cheers Brian - I didn't know that.

This is my take on the Russian strategy.
Can't disagree with any of that - thanks. Some say that Ukraine could collapse politically even before its armies do. Cheers.

Keep it up Rob...thanks.

Terrific accounting of events, looking forward to your next post 👍
