Ukraine and World Affairs (includes Iran/ME): Weekly Update
10th July 2026
This week has been dominated by the funeral of Ali Khamenei and clashes between the US and Iran in an escalation that could reignite the hot war. The 6 day funeral is covered in depth below. The genocide in Gaza continues without respite while the conflict between the Zionists and Hezbollah has reduced considerably but not completely. I have been traveling and did not have access to the internet for 3 days. Therefore, there will be gaps in my coverage which are inevitable because I have not had sufficient time to catch up.
The drone/air war in Ukraine is intensifying as more civilians became casualties and it seems that NATO and Trump are determined to assist Zelensky in hitting infrastructure targets deep into Russia in the mistaken belief that this will force Putin to the negotiating table (see below).
The Russians continue to make progress, especially in Konstantinovka and Liman - which is discussed in more depth below.
3rd July - Post Publication
The Fighting
During the early evening, Zionist drones killed 2 in the Gaza strip while several Palestinians were injured in raids southeast of Bethlehem.
The Funeral
Khamenei’s funeral was played out over six days at various locations in Iran and Iraq as his body moved from Qom to Tehran to Najaf where 2.3 millions mourners joined the procession. It then moved to Karbala where an astonishing 7 millions people registered as mourners. But the Holy City of Mashhad would be the Ayatollah’s final resting place. This funeral, which was attended by more than 15 millions people in total, demonstrated the resilience, the dedication and the determination of the Iranian people to resist the USraeli nuclear/terrorist states which seek to annihilate them. It also highlighted the differences between a traditional, rational, well led and moral state and that which is represented by the degenerate, irrational and incompetent Trumpians. This judgement is not directed at the people of the US - many of whom must be ashamed and embarrassed by their so called ‘leaders’ who commit heinous war crimes and support genocide with impunity.
Medvedev said:
On behalf of the leadership and people of the Russian Federation, I express my deep condolences on the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. We mourn together with the Iranian people over this immense loss.
At these early stages of the funeral, Senior Iranian Officials have vowed to avenge the blood of their martyred leader and all martyrs.
Of course, the US attempted to threaten countries which attended the funeral. Marco Rubio warned:
All recipients of this directive are required to use the various capacities of the United States of America to make the authorities of the host country understand that their participation in the funeral ceremony of Iran's leader will be regarded by the United States as an unfriendly act and will have negative consequences for bilateral relations with the United States.
How pathetic is that! It seems that only 13 countries are so concerned about having negative bilateral relations with the US that they stayed away.
Much to US chagrin, 15 millions people, and representatives from 100 countries (including Saudi Arabia) are expected to attend the funeral.
I was surprised to see some Iranians crying. I thought people hated Khamenei... Maybe it's fake tears.
No Donald: you were told that the people hated him and now you refuse to accept the evidence of your own eyes. What a plonker!
Yemeni Government Statement
Armed forces: We intercepted Saudi enemy warplanes that attempted to prevent Iranian plane from landing at Sana'a airport
This morning, Friday, at 5:20 AM, a formation of Saudi enemy warplanes violated Yemeni airspace in an attempt to prevent an Iranian civilian aircraft carrying more than 200 stranded, wounded, and sick citizens from landing at Sana'a International Airport, which is along with Yemen, has been under an unjust blockade for nearly 11 years, however, thanks be to Allah, their attempt failed through the interception of the warplanes by the Yemeni Armed Forces that thwarted this attempt by targeting the warplanes with a number of air defense missiles, forcing it to leave Yemeni airspace by the grace and power of Allah.
Any further aggression, he said, will be met with a decisive response targeting Saudi airports and vital interests on land and sea. He thanked Iran for breaking the siege on Sana’a international airport which had been in place for ten years.
4th July - Day 126
Egypt Win On Penalties
The above picture shows Egypt’s coach, Hossam Hassan, wrapped in the Palestinian Flag. He said:
We dedicate this victory to the Egyptian and Palestinian people. I'm very happy that the Palestinians supported us and celebrated our victory.
Unfortunately, the Egyptians were knocked out by Argentina in a tough and controversial match.
The Fighting
Early this morning a large explosion was heard in Southern Lebanon as the Zionists violate the ceasefire yet again. In the afternoon, a woman was injured by Israeli gunfire in Gaza while another 5 were injured during the evening in the norther Gaza strip. According to this report, the incursions into Syria are part of a move to create permanent settlements there.

US Presbyterian Church Condemns Genocide in Gaza:
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Friday welcomed a decision by the U.S. Presbyterian Church declaring that Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes genocidal war, while calling for an arms embargo against Israeli occupation and a boycott of the country.
5th July - Day 127
The Fighting
This morning, a tanker was attacked by gunmen close to the Yemeni port of Hudaydah.

The Funeral Prayer Ceremony
The Prayer Ceremony was held this morning at Tehran’s ‘Grand Mosalla’. 9 million people attended this event which could make it the largest funeral ever.
A Slavyangrad Report provides some interesting analysis of the ‘Funeral liturgy’ or ‘war liturgy’ which was addressed to different attendees. Saudi Arabia, which urged the Donald to attack Iran, was given this ‘lesson’:
Imran 3:13: two armies meet in battle, one fighting for Allah, the other in disbelief, the believers outnumbered yet divinely supported. It ends with "surely in this is a lesson for people of insight.
Georgia’s President received a warning:
If you obey the disbelievers, they will turn you back on your heels... but Allah is your protector.
You can see some aerial footage here. This shows how massive the turnout was but the Donald will probably say that people were forced onto the streets.
6th July - Day 128
Unable to cover this day completely but the Zionists killed and injured many civilians with helicopter missile attacks. At least 4 were killed and 16 injured in these strikes.
7th July - Day 129
The Fighting
Unable to cover this day completely but two large explosions were heard in Damascus, close to where Emanuel Macron was staying this morning. Khan Younis was attacked again causing deaths and a number of injuries. The Zionists also killed at least 4 and injured many others in the Gaza strip today. Late this evening, the Zionists attacked targets in Southern Lebanon, breaking the ceasefire once again.
Political/Diplomatic/Military Moves
It seems that the ceasefire agreement in Gaza is close. According to Dr. Bassam Naim, a member of the Political Bureau of Hamas:
The announcement of the dissolution of the Emergency Committee in Gaza confirms a Palestinian direction, led by Hamas, to proceed with the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, including the immediate entry of the administrative committee and the assumption of its civil and security responsibilities, and the start of relief, housing, and reconstruction efforts. Government officials in Gaza also confirm their readiness to hand over the administration.
Today, Donald J announced the reinstatement of the embargo on Iranian oil as Iran targets some commercial vessels breaking the IRGC rules in Hormuz.
8th July - Day 130
Maps
The Fighting
Early this morning the US attacked air defence and other targets in Sirik; Bandar Abbash and Qeshm Island. The report of attacks on Sirik may not be true according to Nima. These attacks were responses to alleged Iranian attacks on commercial vessels, as you can read here but the Iranians struck back at 85 targets as Mahmood OD discusses here. Targets in Bahrain and Kuwait were hit. These US strikes were stronger than previous efforts and hit non-military targets.
The Zionists broke the ceasefire again this morning with attacks on Bint Jbeil in Southern Lebanon. At least one person was killed. This afternoon they killed some and injured others in Khan Younis while a they murdered a 6 year old child in Gaza City. Late in the afternoon, the Zionists killed 2 and injured many more in strikes on Al-Aqsa University, southwest of Gaza City. Another Zionist attack on a vehicle in Nabatiyeh (Lebanon) killed at least 2.
During the evening, explosions were heard in the Strait of Hormuz and the Americans hit Bandar Abbas. Isfahan was also attacked while explosions were heard in Chabahar (where a hospital was hit) and Karnak. An attack on Bushehr Nuclear Power Station caused no damage while explosions were also heard on the Iranian island of Abu Musa and the port of Jask. At least 14 Iranian soldiers were killed in these attacks. Iran’s retaliation hit US bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar. It’s seems that the US has now decided to attack Iran’s infrastructure which will generate an equivalent Iranian response.
Political/Diplomatic/Military Moves
Trump on Iran: ‘I hate them and I don’t think anyone likes them'. I wonder, did he sleep through Khamenei’s funeral?
Trump on the MoU: ‘The memorandum of understanding with Iran is a total mess for me. I think the agreement is over, and I don't want to deal with them. They're scum, and I'm sick of people who lead their country, agree on something, then back out of it.
These sick people killed 54,000 of their own people. Personally, I don't want to talk to them, but I'll let the negotiating team continue the talks if they want to... Personally, I don't think this is worth it’.
This is a wonderful example of Trumpian projection.
Trump on Lebanon: ‘I think Israel will withdraw its troops from Lebanon'.
Karbala
Today, millions gathered in Karbala to praise the Supreme leader and to emphasize the steadfast way in which Iran and its citizens dealt with the assassination and USraeli aggression. According to the Tehran Times:
Iranian officials emphasized that while the assassination represented one of the gravest challenges in the history of the Islamic Republic, it had also revealed the immense strength of the country's institutions and its stable constitutional framework. The smooth, immediate continuation of government affairs, together with the orderly organization of these massive nationwide funeral ceremonies, demonstrated the resilience and unshakable stability of the Islamic Republic despite the magnitude of the tragedy. Political analysts said the seamless transition of leadership and the unified appearance of the country's political, military, and religious leadership throughout the mourning period conveyed a clear message to Washington and Tel Aviv that attempts to undermine Iran's political system had utterly failed. Rather than creating division or instability, the aggression had clearly backfired, strengthening national solidarity and reinforcing public support for the foundational principles of the Islamic Revolution.
Beirut
Ceremonies to mark Khamenei’s death were also held in Beirut (among other places):
The crowds waved Iranian and Hezbollah flags.
You can read more about the funeral at the Tehran Times.

The Fighting
In response to US attacks, Iran hit the Fifth Fleet HQ in Beirut along with Jordan. The US struck two railway bridges with cruise missiles in northern Iran in a sign that Iran’s infrastructure will be targeted. This is part of the rail link to Mashhad which was probably attacked in order to disrupt the funeral of Khamenei.
This morning, the Zionists killed another 2 west of Khan Younis and were busy with another incursion into Quneitra (Syria). They also broke the ceasefire again by bombing Hadatha in Southern Lebanon. Note that Hezbollah has not retaliated against these violations.
Late in the morning, the US attacked Bushehr and Chaghadak while the Iranians attacked US bases; Jordan and Erbil (Iraq). US ships in Hormuz also came under Iranian attack. It was also reported that Shiraz came under attack.
During the early evening, a young man was shot and killed by IDF forces in central Gaza.
Political/Diplomatic/ Military Moves
Today, the body of Ali Khamenei was flown to Mashhad where 4,700 foreign guests from 27 countries attended ceremonies for the former Supreme Leader. Here, in this holy city, Ayatollah, Seyyed Ali Khamenei was laid to rest at the Imam Reza Shrine.
The mourners chanted ‘death to Israel'.
The ceremony in Mashhad was tarnished by a terrorist attack on an IRGC checkpoint which caused many casualties.

The Fighting
No reports seen.
Political/Diplomatic/Military Moves
Trump’s decision to sell F-35 jets to Turkiye has sparked outrage among the Zionists who fear Turkish dominance in Syria. The Israeli Minister for Energy, Eli Cohen, insisted that Israel must work with the US to ensure that Turkiye does not obtain advanced weapons and that Israel maintains its Qualitative Military Edge. That sounds eerily familiar. You can read more at RT (archive).

Ukraine and World Affairs
According to Tass, Ukraine has been able to accumulate only half the gas reserves it needs for winter. It is also low on coal reserves. There is even talk of evacuating civilians from Kiev - which is discussed below.
On the fronts, the Russians have liberated Konstantinovka and are attempting to liberate Liman. They are advancing slowly everywhere and I haven’t seen any reports of Ukrainian successes. But the Ukrainians have been successful at killing and maiming civilians with drones and HIMARS. The drone war is becoming problematic for the Russians as I discuss below.
In bad news for Zelensky, the Bundestag has voted against supplying Taurus and Patriot missiles to Ukraine. In more bad news for Zelensky, the Netherlands has announced that it can no longer provide military assistance to Ukraine, as you can read here.
This week, the Russians have been targeting military airfields and have knocked out 60 Starlink Terminals in Kharkov.
On the 4th of July, Putin called Trump to congratulate him on the 250th anniversary of US independence.
We No Longer Trust the West - Lavrov
Sergei Lavrov no longer believes that the West wants a negotiated settlement in Ukraine. The West simulates a path towards negotiations but combines this with threats and ultimatums which convey a different message.
New Head of Russian Ground Forces
Putin has appointed Colonel General Andrei Mordvichev as the new head of Russian ground forces. He has a reputation for being tough.
Poland Marches Against Banderites
On July 5th people from all over Poland demonstrated against Ukraine’s Nazi involvement in the Volyn massacre committed during the Second World War. Banners carried inscriptions such as ‘Ukrainian genocide of the Polish People’ and ‘A Banderite will never be my brother’. Poland’s President has called for Ukrainian support to be reviewed as he considers severing ties with Ukraine.
Ukrainians Resist Mobilisation - Lvov
Attacks against the mobilisation forces are becoming more frequent and more violent. This protest in Lvov involved attacks on vehicles belonging to the Central Trade Centre.

Today, there is already footage of the attack on 8 tankers with valuable fuel on board: Venera-3, Sanar-1, Sanar-17, Klimena, Teti, Alexei Savrasov, Penelope, the name of the latter is unknown. In addition, another dry cargo ship and one ferry were under attack. Judging by the drone footage, the ships were going in a crowd, without protection. Middle-strike drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine FP-2 hit them like in a shooting gallery (warhead 200 kg). There are no fire groups covering the ships, there is no Black Sea Fleet, apparently there are not enough or no weapons on the ships themselves to repel UAV attacks. The attacks were at night.
Things are heating up in the Sea War. Crimea is still suffering a shortage of fuel and electric supplies.
7th/8th July

World Cup Disgrace
Just when you thought that FIFA could not stoop any lower, the Football Body has disgraced itself by rescinding the red card of US player, Folarin Balogun, after pressure from Trump. EU lawmakers are demanding that FIFA Chief, Gianni Infantino be investigated. This comes after the Trump led persecution of the Iran team, among other disgraces - which the infantile Infantino allowed.
NATO Summit Ankara
At the NATO Summit on 7th/8th July:
Russia was identified as the main threat
It was announced that Ukraine will receive 70 billion Euros in 2026.
Iran must not have nuclear weapons and must open the Strait of Hormuz to all.
Contracts for $50 billions in military contracts were signed.
Trump met with the once great Z, Trump promised to help him hit Russian oil refineries which, he mistakenly believes, will force Russia to end the conflict. He will also assist Zelensky to build Patriot missiles in Ukraine, according to RT. But the Russians will be delighted with this new target. However, it should be noted that Trump has merely made a political statement with regard to Patriots - no agreement has been signed.
Plonker Vance - US Arrogance Personified
JD Vance is the personification of US arrogance and exceptionalism as he assumes the posture of a headmaster when it come to Iran and Hormuz - lecturing the naughty Iranian pupil for misbehaving. They were behaving themselves for a while, he said, but then they started shooting at ships again. If they shoot at ships we will strike them hard, he warned. But he missed the next step which involves Iran pulverising US bases in the Gulf and Jordan. He also missed the fact that the US and Israel launched an illegal war against Iran which prompted it to protect the Strait of Hormuz. He also neglected to tell us that the US is killing fishermen in Hormuz as well as the Caribbean. If Mr. Vance wants the Strait open he should tell his forces to abandon the area completely. The US has no business in the the Gulf or the Middle East.
Wise Westerners
Former Italian PM, Giuseppe Conte, warned that war with Russia is inevitable unless Italians come to their senses. Italian politicians, he said, are creating an image of a non-existent Russian ‘threat’ in order to justify military expenditure which will increase the chances of conflict.
Burnham - a Breath of Sanity
Andy Burnham has made a quite remarkable admission that the Labour Party ‘didn’t get it right’ with regard to the Zionist attacks on Gaza. He stopped short of calling Gaza a genocide but admitted that the destruction and killing in the city were unacceptable and that the UK government should have called for a ceasefire years ago. He promised that Labour, under his leadership would be tougher on the Zionists. You can read more at the Palestinian Chronicle. Polls show that Labour has just increased its popularity to 21% - only 4 points behind Reform.

Russia-China Military Alliance Deepens
Der Spiegel is reporting that Russia and China are deepening their military cooperation by sharing military expertise to counter Western military systems and Starlink. They will seek to form an ‘anti-Starlink Alliance’ and create electronic warfare systems for jamming and anti-satellite work.
That’s it for another week. Apologies if I have missed anything important due to my travels. Please share and subscribe so that more people can read the Busker. I appreciate your views; follows; restacks, likes and comments. Have a good week and stay cool. Best Rob

Someone needs to ask Burnham now: "how will we know that when you reverse your position one day after becoming PM you weren't lying? Give us a Sign!"
Thank you so much Rob.
35 million people came to the Beloved Supreme Leader Khameini funeral. Think about that. 35 million!!!!
I love Iran so much. I am from a Syrian family - born in Lebanon and I know live in zionist (christian) Tennessee. I believe a very great power in the universe is lifting Iran up into victory after victory after victory. I do not do the God thing, but there is such benevolence and beauty supporting Iran.
I pray every day for Gaza. As does Iran.
